CVS Care Drive is part of Cambria Vehicle Services, and represents our service offering to Corporate and Public Sector fleet operators who have concerns about the need for compliance with current Occupational Road Risks for their Vehicles, Drivers and Journeys, and - more importantly - want solutions to help control and manage these risks.

We believe the Duty of Care responsibilities on owners and operators of corporate and public sector fleets demands the immediate and consistent attention of their directors and senior managers.

The arrival of heavier financial and custodial penalties on companies and their directors who fail to comply with laws governing the management of Occupational Road Risks mean that fleet directors and managers need to embrace a robust programme to ensure they and their drivers are compliant. Employers who allow employees to use their own cars on company business also have this Duty of Care to this class of driver - the so-called 'Grey' fleet.

Employers must take 'all reasonably practicable precautions' to protect their employees [and therefore the public at large] while driving at work. Health and Safety legislation has for many years covered the vehicle as a tool of trade, but in April 2008 the latest Corporate Manslaughter legislation was brought into force, bringing with it serious additional penalties available to law enforcers when a company fails to manage these risks adequately. In the event of an accident involving a driver on company business where a fatality occurs, the investigating entity will be the Police, who will be required to assume any such fatality is an unlawful death until and unless they can conclude otherwise. The onus is squarely on the senior managers and directors of companies, partnerships and public sector entities to ensure a compliance programme is fully in place, robustly managed and constantly reviewed. There will be no opportunity to avoid culpability should an employee be the cause of the accident if such a programme is not embraced.

Cambria Vehicle Services has a solution to the management of this key company compliance issue - CVS Care Drive - a service product which includes an on-line application through which an employer can address the fundamental need to ensure its business drivers are properly and continually assessed, whether these drivers have company cars or drive their own vehicles on company business - the so-called 'cash for car' or 'Grey' fleet. A recent survey conducted by Europcar found that 37% of companies offer cash for car schemes and almost one in six companies (15%) said they operate 100% cash for car fleets. Over 300 businesses took part in the survey which found that almost 25,000 company car drivers had opted to take cash and use their own vehicle for business purposes. It is this 'grey fleet' that could be storing up unexpected trouble.
